4 Bad Reasons To Go To Church (You Should Definitely Get Rid Of These!)

Spread the love

Fellowshipping and spending time with other Christians are essential to our walk with God. It’s sort of connected to the saying, ā€œno man is an island,ā€ because we can’t do Christian living without actually living with other believers.

We go to church for many reasons such as fellowship with believers, inviting non-believers and most of all, joining in corporate worship and listen to the preaching of the God’s word. But more than that, we go to church because we want to honor God and we are hungry for more of Him. It’s basically all about HIM. However, our flesh may fail and we end up having these wrong motives of going to church.

It’s really possible that we could have hidden agendas as to why we go to church and that’s futile to our Christian walk. That’s why it’s really important to have a heart check now! Why do you go to church? Here are 4 reasons that you should definitely get rid of fast!

1. CHRISTIAN DUTIES

Going to church because you are a Christian is merely just going to church out of obligation so can you call yourself a Christian. Remember, that does not make you a true Christian as a genuine Christian is someone who follows Jesus wholeheartedly and walks in obedience with him.

2. ENLARGING YOUR NETWORK
You go to church so you can meet a lot of people that could be possible candidates to help out or do business with. That reminds me of how Jesus overturned tables and drove out all who were making the temple courts as a market place. (see, Mark 21:12-13)

3. SHOWCASING YOUR TALENT IN SINGING, PLAYING INSTRUMENTS AND PREACHING
Performing and worship leading are two different things. Same goes with preaching and public speaking. There’s a very fine line for both of them though. But the whole point in worship leading and preaching is to lead people to Christ and not to ourselves.

4. SCOUTING OUT FOR DATING/MARRIAGE CANDIDATES
Sure, two people sharing the same faith ending up together is ideal. So we encourage Christians to marry someone who is from the same church or with the same faith. No problem with that. But this becomes dangerous when this is THE ONLY REASON why we go to church. We miss the whole point of going to church. We go to church because of JESUS.
